We all slept well on the boat except for being awakened around 2 in the morning with some gyrations that seemed to shake the whole cabin. We found out later that others had experienced the same. We went on deck to get our first sightings of Newfoundland and it was amazing. We disembarked at 10. We rode straight to Holyrood, our first night stay on the island. We were able to leave our gear there and headed into St. John’s. We made our way to the city centre (after a very windy ride in) and found it impossible to park. The streets are build on very steep hills and at one point we got separated. Alan and I were going to head down one hill which was at least a 30 degree pitch, when he lost control and we were DOWN! fortunately we were not hurt. I have a tender bum cheek and Alan has a sore rib KS is fine. Two young men came to our assistance and helped Alan right the bike and get it off the incline. After a glass of water etc. I went looking for T&D walking around two blocks. Thirty minutes have now gone by and luckily they were circling back and we reconnected. We finally got the bikes parked and found a very nice restaurant to debrief in. Afterwards we headed towards Signal Hill but the traffic was too crazy so we headed to Torbay. This coastal town was lovely and my dad was stationed there during the war. Afterwards we went to Portugal Cove and back along the Conception Bay coastline to Holyrood. It was a good day of riding but we were all unsettled by the bike drop.

Sure sounded scary to me, the “drop” that is. Hope that is the last of your close calls. You are having better weather than we are so take advantage! Enjoy and keep posting when possible.

Glad you’re OK after the drop- scary though! Be careful! Looks as if you’re having a great time! Thank you for the card for Freddie. We will save the goodies to share with you when you get home!
Just got home and got caught up with your adventures.
Glad I didn’t read your last account first. Very scary to hear about your fall. Looks like you are having a good time.
Pictures are great.
We have enjoyed reading of your adventures. That spill must have left you both a bit shaken up and sore. Do not plan a bike trip to San Fransisco . Their hills are killers.
