Babes on Back

St. Anthony-wow!

After a leisurely breakfast of cheese omelettes made by Dwight, we headed out to Fish Point to see the lighthouse there and to spot our first iceberg of the day in the far off distance. We then headed to L’anse aux meadows but were distracted by the icebergs in St. Lunaire-Griquet. There we saw 8 various sized ones. Alan and Dwight went down to the water’s edge and found an iceberg there which D broke a piece off of and we all got to try the iceberg-12 000 yrs. old! We continued on to L’anse aux meadows where we stood on the land that Leif Erikson stood on in the year 1 000. The sod house was amazingly cool and I’m sure warm in the harsh winters. We were thrilled to have this experience. Finally, we had to start back south but not until we went to Burnt Cove where we saw our largest icebergs close up. It was fantastic. At 4 we started our treck back to Port aux Choix which was gruelling and chilly. We arrived at Jeannie’s by 7 and were pleased again with our room. We walked to the Anchor Cafe where our waitress Jill made us feel at home. Dwight had a moose burger while the rest of us had shrimp caught right here in PaC, chowder, scallops…it was all delicious. We had iceberg beer and D&T had Figgy Duff for dessert. A great meal overall. We looked at the cove then back to our room as we were all bushed.
