We were up at the usual time but relaxed as we didn’t have to be anywhere right away. We updated our blogs as we finally got wifi. Tara and I headed to Tim’s for take out breakfast then we headed out to Corner Brook to see Captain Cook’s historical site. The view was terrific and we learned that Cook mapped the coastline of Nfld. so well that it is as accurate as present day maps. We weren’t too impressed with the hills in Corner Brook so headed out on 450 to Lark Harbour. We stopped at Frenchman’s Cove where we talked to some fishermen while they were unloading their catch. There was a gov’t lady supervising the unloading due to government regulations. Afterwards we continued on the hwy. seeing unbelievable hills, valleys and curving roads up and down with some rough bumps that sent Tara and I flying. We saw the viking ship used in a movie called the “Viking Ship”. We had an ok lunch at Capt. Cook’s Rest. then we had to retrace our tracks to get on the Trans Canada to head to Cape Anguille. It was a gruelling ride with nothing but trees, hills and small brooks for km. There were only 3 gas stations in 2.5 hr. of riding. Finally at 7:15 we arrived at the lighthouse driving over a bailey bridge and a dirt road that challenged our drivers’ skills to the nth degree. We were thrilled with our accommodations and hostess, Anne, as we carried our gear into our rooms upstairs. It was built in1905 and at one time housed 18 people, 16 children. We watched the beautiful sunset from the porch while we had wine, cheese and conversation with Anne. The next morning we were served a delicious breakfast as we chatted with Jorgen and Karol from Berlin. We were sad to leave the lighthouse but had to catch the ferry in Port aux Basque at 1. After a short ride we arrived and quickly boarded the ferry. The weather was perfect again and as we travelled towards North Sydney, we saw pods of dolphins swim in front of the ferry. We made good time and arrived in N.Sydney by 6. We followed the TCH and 125 into Sydney to our motel. We were hungry and had dinner at the Red Diner then went to bed. We were bushed.
